I always enjoy chatting to couples about their wedding ideas when they come for viewings. Often if the couple are from different countries or cultures this will influence their plans, the decorations and detail. It’s interesting learning about any symbolic reasoning behind the traditions they have in mind to include. Recently I met a bride-to-be who liked the idea of including her country’s tradition of ‘bread pulling/breaking’. The Bride and Groom tug at the loaf and the person that is left with the largest portion of bread is supposedly destined to wear the trousers in the relationship.
One of our British traditions is having a wedding cake and that apparently originated from Medieval Britain when cakes made of wheat were thrown at the bride as a sign of fertility. Thankfully that tradition has had its day and the beautiful amazing wedding cakes that are made today are eaten! Photo above of two very different styled and two very lovely cakes from the weddings this weekend.
