So often flowers are the favoured choice of gift for mothers. So it seemed appropriate to feature a lovely arrangement of flowers, although these are actually from a wedding here at the Watermill, and wish all mothers a Happy Mother’s Day!
It’s great to see the transformation at our sister venue Rockbeare Manor in just a matter of a few months from an unfurnished home in need of decoration to an up and coming smart wedding venue. It is now open for viewings and has already been busily taking bookings for this year and next. If you are looking for a wedding venue near Exeter I would recommend taking a look. www.rockbearemanor.co.uk
“expect the unexpected” However, whilst viewing the splendid rooms at Conygre House it hadn’t crossed our minds that we would find Cinderella in one bedroom and Rapunzel in another! Both of these lovely young characters captivated us with a mini sketch and a song before disappearing out of view. Conygre House is one of the local self-catering accommodation options we recommend to wedding guests or bridal groups. The princesses are not included! However, if you are looking for tailor made performances, singing and dancing and/or entertainment for children (invariably with a princess or vintage theme), I can put you in touch with the talented company that Abi & Emma are part of.
What accommodation is there near Priston Mill? There is plenty! We are only 7miles from Bath where you can find a wealth of B & B’s, Guest Houses and Hotels visitbath.co.uk and there is also a large number of B & B’s, Inns and self-catering options even closer pristonmill.co.uk/guest-information. This week we popped into the Carpenters Arms, which is conveniently only 12 minutes drive from us and can accommodate over 20 guests. While we were there taking a look at their most recently refurbished room Victoria, Olivia, Peter and myself luckily had time to enjoy a bite to eat. :-)
At Priston Mill the initial contact tends to be with our enthusiastic top office team, most likely Victoria or Olivia. However, by the time it comes to the wedding day itself this admin team is less actively involved and very much behind the scenes. The event managers and chefs have taken over by this stage and are busy running & organising the ceremonies, receptions and wedding breakfasts. As much as the events team depends upon the admin team’s endeavours, the admin team relies on well maintained systems support. We are fortunate in having Geoff Mosely bringing his expertise to programming our enquiry and bookings database and Westgate IT who regularly and reliably update our systems.Their speedy response to emergencies is also much appreciated as we aspire to offer not only a friendly service but an efficient one.
We have been busy all weekend with viewings and enjoyed meeting many lovely couples. Most of them are looking for dates in 2017 or 2018 but we still have had interest for weddings this year. Our prime days are generally the first to go which means couples often book at least a year ahead, if that's their preference. However, if you are keen to get married soon we do have a few Fridays available in the Watermill in May, June & July and a prime date in the Tythe Barn - Friday 1st July 2016. Alternatively we do have midweek dates.
Our cheese platter is one of our most popular choices for evening food. It is always attractively presented with a range of regional organic cheeses - Bath soft cheese, Somerset brie, Tor Ash pyramid, Bath blue cheese, Wyfe of Bath and Bath farmhouse Cheddar - plus all the extras - chutneys, grapes, apples, celery, cherry tomatoes, figs, onions, biscuits, breads and butter. From time to time, on request, the chefs will decorate the cheeses and create a ‘Wedding Cheese Cake’ (supplement applies). In these cases the chefs can also order and buy in specific cheeses that are not listed in our brochure. This week for example the splendid cheese cake pictured above included Bath farmhouse Cheddar, Cornish Yarg, Brie De Beaux, Bath blue cheese, White Nancy goat’s cheese.
We have been asked a number of times recently about the heating we provide in the Tythe Barn and Watermill. Rest assured both of the eighteenth century walled venues, even in the Winter months are warm and cosy. In fact with the early evenings and the addition of candle light or fairy lights the venues feel really magical and inviting- as well as warm. It's no wonder that half of the weddings booked recently have been for dates during the Winter period. The added bonus is that many of these dates are included within our Winter offer period.
“There is no way that we can predict the weather six months ahead beyond giving the seasonal average” - Stephen Hawking Even taking that into account it seems that this may not be true in 2016 and we must expect the unexpected. Here the New Year has brought us daffodils in full bloom - not seen before in living memory. Previously, couples have found the monthly updates of our gardens throughout the year a useful reference. However I'm not sure now much help they are going to be this year!
